Caring Mental Health Support Online!
Mindful Haven is a supportive community website and blog created to provide a safe, compassionate space for people navigating mental illness, abuse, trauma, and the challenges that can come with healing.
At Mindful Haven, we believe that everyone has a story and that no one should feel as though they have to face their struggles in silence. This community welcomes people from all walks of life who have experienced different forms of abuse, mental health struggles, trauma, difficult relationships, or other life circumstances that have affected their emotional well-being.
A meaningful part of Mindful Haven is hearing personal stories from the website's owner as she openly shares her own journey with mental illness, trauma, healing, setbacks, growth, and resilience. Her experiences are shared not because everyone's journey is the same, but to remind others that there can be strength in speaking openly about the things we often feel pressured to hide.
Through personal stories, blog posts, encouragement, mental health discussions, educational resources, and community support, Mindful Haven hopes to help break the stigma surrounding mental illness and abuse while creating a place where people feel heard, respected, and understood.
Mindful Haven is more than a blog—it is a community centered on compassion, awareness, healing, and hope. Your story matters. Your voice matters. And you deserve a space where you can simply be heard.
Meet the Founder
Hello! My name is Annamarie Maher. I was born in December 1993 in Siberia, Russia. I was adopted when I was five and a half. I was raised in Cleveland, Ohio.
During Father's Day weekend in 2019, I was hospitalized for circumstances that I choose to keep private. While there, my heart stopped for approximately five minutes before the doctors and nurses were able to revive me. During that time, I experienced something that changed my life. I saw my beloved Grandma Jan, who had passed away from bone cancer. In this dream-like experience, she told me that it wasn't my time and that I still had amazing things left to accomplish.
At the time, I didn't yet realize just how meaningful those words would become. My little Nova was already growing inside of me. I had not known I was pregnant until three months in.
On October 22, 2019, I entered Mercy Multiplied, a Christian faith-based residential program in Nashville, Tennessee. For a long time, I struggled with mental illness, and I reached a point where I had to acknowledge that I couldn't overcome everything by myself. Through treatment, faith, forgiveness, and allowing God back into my life, I began confronting my past, forgiving myself for my mistakes, and working toward forgiving those who had hurt me. I eventually graduated from Mercy in June 2020.
Choosing an open adoption for Nova was incredibly difficult, but it was a decision I made out of love. Like any mother, I wanted my child to be safe, happy, cared for, and surrounded by love. Seeing the life she has today reassures me that I chose a wonderful family for her. I will forever be grateful to her adoptive family for allowing my parents and me to remain part of her life.
My journey hasn't been perfect. I've experienced setbacks, difficult days, and struggles even after getting help. Healing doesn't mean that life suddenly becomes easy. For me, it means continuing to move forward even when things become difficult.
Nova remains one of my greatest inspirations. Even though I am her birth mother rather than the parent raising her every day, I still want to live a life that will make her proud.
I believe God gave me a literal second chance at life, and I don't want to waste it. My experiences with mental illness, motherhood, adoption, faith, forgiveness, and recovery have helped shape the person I am today—and they are part of why I want to share my story through Mindful Haven.
My past is part of my story, but it doesn't have to determine my future.
“I am no longer a slave to fear, for I am a child of God.”
